Find your fit

Replacing a bowl or downstem? Start with the connection, then compare the specifications before you order.

Male, female or O-ring?

A male glass joint fits into a matching female joint. A female bowl fits over a matching male joint. Match the nominal size as well as the connection type.

O-ring and grommet connections use a different fit system. Do not treat a 9mm O-ring slide as interchangeable with a ground-glass joint.

How do I check downstem length?

Use the pencil method from our downstem guide:

  1. Slide a pencil into the water-pipe joint.
  2. Withdraw it a little, then mark the pencil at the upper edge of the joint.
  3. Remove the pencil and use a ruler to measure from its tip to your mark.

Use that distance as a starting point when comparing downstems. Check the product’s measurement diagram: overall length and usable length can differ. The stem must reach the water and leave clearance inside the pipe.
